Rom Shot and Killed by Policeman in Romania
12 October 1996
Rromani Criss (Bucharest) announced that on the morning of May 9, 1996, Mircea-Muresul Mosor, a 26-year-old Rom from Comani, was shot and killed by Tudor Stoian, the chief of police in Valcele, Olt County, Romania.
According to the police, the shooting was an act of self-defense after Mr. Mosor raised a stick to hit Officer Stoian. However, the ERRC found evidence which contradicts the police statements, including hospital records which show that Mr. Mosor was shot from behind.
The case is currently under investigation by the Military Prosecutor's Office in Romania. In mid-August, in response to a letter sent by the ERRC, the Military Prosecutor's Office told the ERRC, „We will take into account what you have pointed out in your letter and promise to inform you about the result of our investigation."
