Appeal By Teen Who Killed Traveller Boy in the UK Rejected
16 December 2004
According to the BBC of June 21, 2004, the Court of Appeal rejected 16-year-old Ricky Kearney appeal for a reduced sentence after he was found guilty of manslaughter in connection with the death of 15-year-old Johnny Delaney, a Traveller. The Chester Crown Court’s guilty verdict came in November 2003 after Ricky and 16-year-old Louis McVey kicked Johnny in the head and beat him to death as he lay on the ground while shouting racial slurs in Ellesmere Port, on the western coast of England (additional details can be found at: http://www.errc.org/cikk.php?cikk=1358). The 16-year-olds were sentenced to four-and-a-half-years imprisonment. Ricky Kearney reportedly argued that the sentence was excessive.
