ERRC and NEKI Call for Action Against Racist Group in Hungary

2007. december 13-án az Európai Roma Jogok Központja (ERRC) és a Nemzeti és Etnikai Kisebbségi Jogvédő Iroda (NEKI) közös kérelemmel fordult a legfőbb ügyészhez és az országos rendőrfőkapitányhoz a Magyar Gárda rasszista és cigányellenes tevékenységeivel kapcsolatban. A Magyar Gárda 2007 augusztusában alakult félkatonai alakulat, mely kimondott célja a hagyományőrzés és a magyar nemzet védelme.
Az országos rendőrfőkapitányhoz írt levelében az ERRC és a NEKI azt kéri, hogy az országos rendőrfőkapitány kísérje figyelemmel a Magyar Gárda tevékenységét és a nyíltan cigányellenes nyilvános megmozdulásait oszlassák fel. Az ERRC és a NEKI a legfőbb ügyésznek intézett levelében kéri a Magyar Gárda bejegyzéséhez benyújtott iratok felülvizsgálatát a Gárda tényleges, rasszista tevékenységeinek tükrében, és egyben kéri a Gárda működési engedélyének visszavonását.
A közös kérelem megfogalmazása a közelmúltban Tatárszentgyörgyön történt cigányellenes megmozdulás és azon nyilatkozatok után történt, amelyben a Magyar Gárda képviselői a romák szegregációját követelték, melynek célja az etnikai indíttatású gyűlöletkeltés.

On 13 December 2007, the ERRC and NEKI submitted joint requests to the Hungarian Prosecutor General and Chief of Police of Hungary regarding racist, anti-Romani activities of the Magyar Garda – a paramilitary group established in August 2007 with the stated purpose of protecting Hungarian culture and the Hungarian nation. In their request to the Chief of Police of Hungary, the ERRC and NEKI requested that the activities of Magyar Garda be monitored and that explicitly anti-Romani demonstrations and other activities be stopped. In their letter of the Hungarian Prosecutor General, the ERRC and NEKI asked that the Magyar Garda’s registration documents be reviewed according to the actual and racist activities of the Group and that the Prosecutor General seek the revocation of the Group’s permit.
The joint requests were sent in the aftermath of the recent anti-Romani activities by the Magyar Garda in Tatárszentgyörgy and statements made by the Group’s representatives calling for the segregation of Roma, which aim to enhance ethnically motivated hatred.
