Anzhelika Bielova, Human Rights Consultant for Ukraine

Anzhelika was born and raised in the city of Zaporizhzhia, in the South East of Ukraine where she also completed her Masters Degree studies in Psychology. Since 2015, after receiving a grant from the Roma Education Fund to pursue her studies, she has also been engaged as a Romani activist. Anzhelika worked first as an executive director and project manager at a local Romani organisation where she implemented more than 20 projects aimed at improving access to education, employment and legal services for Roma. In 2020, she founded the Romani women’s organisation “Association of Roma Women – Voice of Romni” and also became a regional representative of the Ukrainian Women's Congress, promoting gender equality policy and the protection of women's and girls' rights in the Zaporizhzhia region. Following the invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation in February 2022, she left the country and joined the ERRC’s team responding to the war. She continues to coordinate her organisations work providing humanitarian assistance to the Roma of south-eastern Ukraine and evacuating Roma to safe places.
