Reports of violence targeting Roma across Europe are becoming more frequent. These are often set in the context of racist speech against Roma, including by politicians and public officials at the highest levels. Today I’m with Dezideriu Gergely, Executive Director of the European Roma Rights Centre.

Romani children in Macedonia are massively over-represented in special education. As part of a wider action, the ERRC, together with National Roma Centrum, recently trained 60 Roma activists to campaign for mainstream education for all Romani children.

The European Roma Rights Centre, in partnership with the Bulgarian Helsinki Committee, the Milan Simecka Foundation and osserVazione, has conducted a study on the human rights situation of Romani children in institutional care in Bulgaria,

 ERRC Executive Director Dezideriu Gergely spoke recently at the conference “National Roma Strategies: Ensuring a Comprehensive and Effective European Approach.”

The European Roma Rights Centre and People in Need Slovakia published a report on how human trafficking affects Roma in Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania and Slovakia.

Although the European Commission has a relatively new Roma integration strategy, the director of the European Roma Rights Centre Robert Kushen questions whether they will follow through with it and demand real action from from member states to address Roma exclusion.
