Fundamental Rights Agency (FRA) project “Comparative report on the housing conditions of Roma and Travellers in the EU”
In January 2009, the ERRC in partnership with Pavee Point Travellers Centre, began a project to explore the housing problems of Roma and Travellers across the EU, as well as highlight significant initiatives that would improve their living conditions. The study is intended to provide the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) with the essential evidence to develop conclusions and opinions for the EU institutions and Member States and assist them in developing appropriate evidence-based policies and measures to improve the housing situation of Roma and Travellers.
Included in the scope of the project will be thematic studies, case studies, and a working paper.
- The thematic studies will give provide representative information on the national situation in 24 EU Member States about the major projects addressing housing situation of Roma and Travellers, and analyzing their success.
- Six case studies will examine differing national approaches to addressing the Roma and Traveller housing situation and detail both their positive and negative aspects.
- Using the statistical survey data, a working paper will be developed, to provide both country-by-country and comparative European analysis, including a discussion of factors typically associated with accommodation discrimination.
- These portions will be synthesized into a comprehensive report detailing the current situation of Roma and Traveller housing and offering models for institutional coordination and interaction with beneficiaries and civil society, which will be presented at a concluding round table conference.
